  • 2. The job must be nominated. The employer then chooses a position that matches your skills and submits a nomination to the government. This step includes details about your job title, your duties, your salary, and proof that they’ve tried to hire an Australian worker first.
  • 3. You apply for the visa.Once the employer’s nomination is accepted, you can lodge your visa application. You’ll need to show that you have the right skills, qualifications, and experience for the job. You must also meet other rules, like speaking English, having health insurance, and passing health and character checks.
  • The TSS work visa has three different streams, depending on your occupation and the employer’s situation:
  • Short-Term stream (up to 2 years): This is for jobs that are listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). It may be renewed once while you’re still in Australia, but it doesn’t usually lead to permanent residency unless you’re working in a regional area.
  • Medium-Term stream (up to 4 years): This stream is for jobs listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). It offers a longer stay and a possible pathway to permanent residency after three years of working with the same employer.
  • Labour Agreement stream (up to 4 years): This is for workers who are being hired under a special agreement between the employer and the Australian Government. These agreements are usually for industries or locations where there’s a big shortage of workers.

5. English Language Test Results

  • Unless you’re from an English-speaking country or exempt, you must prove your English skills. Accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE. Your scores need to meet the minimum required for your stream:
  • Short-Term stream: Overall IELTS 5, no band under 4.5
  • Medium-Term and Regional: Overall IELTS 5, no band under 5
